Toronto, ON — Ontario students are calling on the government, education unions and school boards to formalize their commitment to “Put Students First” by including the necessary language in all new collective agreements.
At 4:00PM on Tuesday Nov. 25th the Public Board Council (PBC) of OSTA-AECO (Ontario student trustees association) representing the public school students of Ontario are releasing a position paper asking that all new collective agreements include language that directly addresses and supports student needs. The release will be held at Queens Park in the Queens Park press room.
The students believe:

There should be explicit mention of student needs in all collective agreements

The adults involved should recognize that educational collective agreements are a unique set of collective agreements that should fully benefit society rather than just benefiting the union members and the employers.
Public Board Council President and student trustee for the Toronto District School Board Jesse Waugh will be speaking on this issue and will entertain a short question period after the reading of the position paper.
