Advocacy Interest Groups

Each Advocacy Interest Group is led by one Chair. Chairs are responsible for developing and executing initiatives alongside their general members. While the Chairs ultimately report to the President, they control the overall direction of their Advocacy Interest Group and, consequently, the specific initiatives of their group.

Curriculum & School Community

The Curriculum & School Community Advocacy Interest Group focuses on the improvement of education for the interests of student success in Ontario. The objective is to target 21st century learning, while creating an inclusive and vibrant space for learning, with the success of Ontario students in mind. As a group, our goal is to create equitable education that will allow students to attain knowledge and reach their full potential.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

The Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Advocacy Interest Group works to improve the quality of school environments for all students, regardless of who they are and where they come from. This group advocates for excepting spaces within Ontario’s schools and promotes the concept of amplifying the voices of those with lived experiences.

Truth & Reconciliation

The Truth and Reconciliation Advocacy Interest Group focuses on promoting and enhancing Indigenous culture in Ontario education through authentic learning and exploration. The Truth and Reconciliation AIG invites Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to be part of a community dedicated on taking ‘ReconciliAction’ through meaningful conversation and constructive dialogue. The AIG believes in fulfilling its commitment to be caring stewards and active partners on this important journey, and the Truth and Reconciliation AIG embraces that sentiment in all the work it does.

Student Well-Being

The Student Well-Being Advocacy Interest Group is dedicated to catering to the mental and physical needs of students all across Ontario. This AIG works to build on students strengths and improve their overall well-being! We work on finding ways to allow students to feel more comfortable in their school environments, whether that be in a physical or emotional sense, helping them feel more supported!

Indigenous Student Trustees’ Council

The Indigenous Student Trustees’ Council is made up of Indigenous Student Trustees from across Ontario. It seeks to support Indigenous Student Trustees within and outside of OSTA-AECO, while incorporating Indigenous voices into the work of the organization. As well, it aims to educate Student Trustees surrounding the topics of Indigenous lived experiences, ways of knowing, and education.
